Boat captains perform the dual role of piloting the boat and narrating. Best candidates not only love boating but also care deeply about the Conservancy&#8217;s mission.<\/p>\n<p>Boating experience is preferred but not required (training provided).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tClam Pass\n\t\t\t\t<h4>CLAM PASS TOUR GUIDES<\/h4>\n<p>Becoming a Clam Pass Tour Guide is both a rewarding and challenging opportunity. You have the chance to continually learn while sharing information about our unique Sothwest Florida environment.<\/p>\n<p>Every walk is different as you greet people from all over the world who are interested in learning about our trees, birds, and plants.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tCommunity Outreach\n\t\t\t\t<h4><strong>COMMUNITY OUTREACH<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Volunteers in the Community Outreach deliver and monitor collateral and promotional materials in various Southwest Florida hotels, visitor centers, and other locations.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tDDC Docents\n\t\t\t\t<h4>DALTON DISCOVERY CENTER DOCENTS<\/h4>\n<p>Docents will provide guided tours through the Dalton Discovery Center and assist with environmental education programs throughout the Nature Center.<\/p>\n<p>Training is provided.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tDock Masters\n\t\t\t\t<h4>DOCK MASTERS<\/h4>\n<p>Volunteer dock masters will register visitors for boat rides, assist in docking boats, and answer general questions about the Conservancy and what is happening on campus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The best candidates are friendly and outgoing, and able to maintain decorum during busy times on the dock.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tFacilities Team\n\t\t\t\t<h4><strong>FACILITIES TEAM<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Volunteers will work with the facilities staff to provide support in cleaning the campus, repair of equipment, woodworking, and other general maintenance work.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tFairs and Festivals\n\t\t\t\t<h4><strong>FAIRS AND FESTIVALS<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Volunteers will attend select community events to promote the work of the Conservancy, interact with attendees, distribute Conservancy publications, and promote the importance and benefits of Conservancy membership and volunteering.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tGood Fortune II Naturalist\n\t\t\t\t<h4><strong>GOOD FORTUNE II NATURALIST<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Volunteers provide an educational, informative, and compelling narrative and interpretation of flora and fauna encountered on the two-hour Rookery Bay eco-cruise. They also assist the boat captain as necessary in securing the vessel to the dock and further be capable of aiding the captain in an emergency.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A candidate for the Good Fortune II must have extensive knowledge of the history of the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Reserve, undergo man overboard training, be CPR qualified, and is subject to random drug testing as they are deemed a &#8220;first mate&#8221; under U.S. Coast Guard regulations.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tGuest Services Concierge\n\t\t\t\t<h4>GUEST SERVICES CONCIERGE<\/h4>\n<p>The guest services concierge is the first person that guests engage with at the Conservancy Nature Center. Volunteers welcome guests to the Conservancy campus upon arrival and direct them to admissions for check-in.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers will also\u00a0assist the guests with merchandise selection in the gift shop and help to keep the inventory neat and organized when time permits.<\/p>\n<p>Our concierges need to be outgoing, willing to stand for long periods of time, and enjoy retail sales.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tOutreach Team\n\t\t\t\t<h4><strong>OUTREACH TEAM<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Volunteers with the Outreach Team deliver &#8220;Conservancy Story&#8221; presentations to civic associations, homeowners associations, and other community organizations to promote the work of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida as well as the benefits and importance of Conservancy membership.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tSmith Preserve Maintenance Team\n\t\t\t\t<h4><strong>SMITH PRESERVE MAINTENANCE TEAM<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Volunteers will assist with the maintenance of the Smith Preserve by removing exotic plants and maintaining the natural habitat for the gopher tortoises and other species inside the preserve.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tWildlife Rehab\n\t\t\t\t<h4><strong>WILDLIFE REHAB<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>There are multiple roles available inside the von Arx Wildlife Hospital. Read below to see which one is right for you.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h5>Animal Care<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Outside &#8211; 8am<\/strong><br \/>Rake out outdoor enclosures, hose down the walls, empty and scrub out the ponds and refill them, remove food dishes and advise interns or staff of any unusual behavior you notice. There is no direct contact with the animals, although they might approach you (but not likely). This generally takes no more than three hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inside morning &#8211; 8 am &#8211; 12 pm<\/strong><br \/>Scrub down the insides of all cages, remove soiled towels and food and water dishes and replace all with clean towels and food and water dishes; do laundry-shaking loose food and scraping animal feces from towels; load the washing machine and switch clean laundry to the dryer; fold clean laundry and distribute to various rooms; help with the feeding and care of the patients; perform mid-day cleanup.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inside afternoon 12 pm &#8211; 4 pm<\/strong><br \/>Prepare diets for patients-involves cutting up fruits, vegetables, fish, mice, and rats; doing laundry as above; taking gopher tortoises out to the field behind the dorms to graze; helping with the feeding and care of the patients; performing end-of day cleanup.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inside night 4 pm &#8211; 8 pm\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>This shift includes all duties of the shift above excluding the grazing of gopher tortoises.\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>In each of the above shifts, all volunteers participate in every facet as listed. Each requires good health and a lot of stamina as volunteers are on their feet the entire four hours. We prefer that volunteers are able to assume a four-hour shift on a weekly basis. However, if you are unable to commit to a weekly four-hour shift, we always need people to fill in when other volunteers are away.<\/p>\n<p>There are four different wards within the Wildlife Hospital: mammals, reptiles, birds, and the nursery. Every volunteer is rotated through each area, working in a different area each week in order to assure that all volunteers keep up-to-date on the type of care needed in each room.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5>Front Desk<\/h5>\n<p>Greet people when they bring in injured wildlife; help them fill out paperwork; help fold laundry; make occasional phone calls to Critter Couriers. This is a great way for people to help that are unable to do the physical parts of the volunteer opportunity.<\/p>\n<h5>Critter Courier<\/h5>\n<p>Critter Couriers transport injured animals to the hospital &#8211; we can never have too many of those!
